The demand for sustainable solutions is growing rapidly – and industrial hemp is playing a key role. From construction materials and textiles to biobased plastics and pharmaceutical applications, the possibilities are vast. But to fully unlock this potential, we need qualified professionals.

This is where the Linnaeus Competence Center Hemp comes in. We are working on the development of the new professional profile “Hemp Technologist” – a qualification that covers the entire hemp value chain:

  • Cultivation & Agronomy – sustainable farming, varietal knowledge, and soil health.
  • Processing & Technology – fiber extraction, biopolymers, building and insulation materials.
  • Research & Innovation – new materials, pharmaceutical applications, and even space projects.
  • Sustainability & Economy – circular economy, regional value creation, international markets.

The profession of “Hemp Technologist” bridges tradition and high-tech: an ancient crop meets the challenges of the European Green Deal and the circular economy. For young people, this means entering an attractive career field with a clear future perspective.

In the coming months, we will present the first steps on how this professional profile can be shaped and integrated into vocational training and higher education.
